Genelec Unveils 6010A Computer Speakers & 5040A Subwoofer
Genelec has unveiled the 6010A speaker system designed and targeted for computer sound systems, workstations and other close proximity listening applications. Genelec is even pimping the system as an iPod Dock! (the world as we know it, is officially over! —Ed.)
Designed as an active loudspeaker, the 6010A contains drivers, power amplifiers, active crossover filters and protection circuitry tuned for very near field listening. The all-aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) and advanced Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) technologies are carefully matched with advanced amplifier and electronics circuitry and the latest drivers.
Bass response extends down to 73 Hz (-3 dB) while distortion is exceptionally low due to a uniquely new rear reflex port design. The system’s directivity characteristics and accurate imaging together with its compact size and flexible mounting options make the 6010A the perfect loudspeaker for a wide range of applications. As the amplifiers are integrated into the loudspeaker enclosure, the only connections required are the mains supply and the line level input signal, making the 6010A very easy to set up and use.
The integrated design allows the amplifiers and the drivers to be calibrated as a single unit in the factory. This eliminates the effects of component tolerances and ensures consistent quality. An RCA line level input connector provides easy connection to a preamplifier, computer sound card or a portable MP3 player.
The active crossover controls ‘Desktop Control’ and ‘Bass Tilt’ allow the 6010A to be exactly matched to any application. The bass and treble amplifiers each produce 12 watts of output power. The fast, low distortion amplifiers are capable of driving a stereo pair to peak output sound pressure levels in excess of 102 dB at 1 m A combination of five 6010A’s and the matching Genelec 5040A subwoofer can create a dynamic and detailed sound-stage like no other loudspeaker system of the same size category. Dimensions are incredibly only H 181mm and 14mm more with Iso-Pod stand, W121mm, D114mm, proving that with Genelec, small size never compromises performance.
To complement the 6010A active loudspeaker system, Genelec is also launching the 5040A, its most compact active subwoofer designed to complement up to five Genelec 6010A loudspeakers or a pair of the slightly bigger 6020A’s. Measuring just 251mm high with a diameter of 305mm, the 5040A extends the system’s bass response from 73Hz down to 35 Hz and integrates perfectly with the 6010A’s in any environment. The playback level for the whole system is conveniently controlled by the remote volume control provided with the 5040A subwoofer. The 5040A features a magnetically shielded downward firing 6-1/2″ bass driver attached to a die-cast aluminium base plate.
The base plate also serves as the chassis for the 40-Watt amplifier and 5.1-channel crossover filter circuitry. The 5040A packs a respectable punch of 96 dB maximum SPL. The built-in crossover unit features six RCA input connectors for five main channels and LFE channel and five RCA output connectors for the 6010A loudspeakers. The main channels have a fixed high pass filter to work with Genelec 6010A loudspeakers. The LFE channel can repro- duce signals up to 120 Hz. Adjustable input sensitivity in combination with adjustable crossover phase allows a seamless integration between the subwoofer and the main loudspeakers. Bass roll-off rate and input sensitivity can also be adjusted to suit different acoustical environments and subwoofer positioning. In addition to the RCA connectors, a 3.5 mm stereo jack input connector is provided for convenient connection to portable audio players or computers.
