Fuse Audio Labs has released the Tube Lab Retro Channel Strip plug-in for Mac and PC. The software emulates analog hardware by combining a multi-tube preamplifier, a three-band Baxandall-style equalizer, and an optical leveler. Unlike fixed-path processors, the plugin allows users to reorder these three modules both visually and within the internal signal path to customize the flow of the audio signal.

The tube amplifier section features five selectable vacuum tube types: 12AT7, 12AU7, 12AX7, 6DJ8, and 12DW7. Each model provides different levels of headroom and harmonic saturation, ranging from light coloration to aggressive distortion. The optical leveler includes classic and modern modes, along with an optional automatic gain control (AGC) function. The plug-in is designed for use on individual instrument tracks, such as vocals and drums, or on full group stems.
Internal routing allows EQ and compression to be reordered as needed…
A three-band Baxandall EQ shapes tone in broad, musical strokes, encouraging instinctive, musical moves. Dynamics are handled by an opto compressor offering classic and modern modes, with optional automatic gain control for smooth, musical results. Internal routing allows EQ and compression to be reordered as needed.
Tube Lab is a straight, hands-on experience. Gain staging, tone shaping, and dynamics come together quickly in a natural flow. From vocals and bass to guitars, drums, keys, and full stems, Tube Lab excels wherever weight, density, and tube character are desired – subtle and controlled, or pushed hard for true tone-shaping.
