MyVolts Premiers Step Up USB-C Power System

MyVolts has premiered the Step Up USB-C power system. MyVolts Step Up USB-C Power System is a solution for using battery power to juice your micro studio gear.

MyVolts, based in Dublin, develops power solutions for musicians and creatives on the go, but also has some more utilitarian offerings. Their website could certainly benefit frombetter descriptions of their gear, but their Step Up system is targeted to musicians who want to power their Micro Studio gear in remote locations.

The Step Up system consists of specialized cords and adaptors that take advantage of USB-C’s advanced power delivery. MyVolts claims their smaller, smarter and more powerful Step Up system provides the correct voltage for your device using USB Power Delivery and Quick Charge Protocols. The Step-Up system takes advantage of protocols called PD (Power Delivery) and QC (Quick Charge) present in USB power sources. These protocols allow a device to request a certain voltage (5V, 9V, 12V and even 15V or 20V in some cases) from a USB port. A Step-Up Power Tip connects to the power source, requests the voltage needed by your gear, and supplies it. Step-Up handles up to 100W – however, will only deliver what the PD / QC Source it’s connected to can provide, so you do need to check the specifications of your power source.

MyVolts Step Up Allows You To Power Your Micro Studio From A USB-C Battery Pack

The system starts with the MyVolts Step-Up Power Tips, which allow you power your gear from USB-C. They are small tips that fit on the end of a USB-C cable, changing the output and size so you can power gear that uses voltages other than 5V from USB. The benefit is to allow you to juice your gear from a battery pack, instead of having to plug into the wall.

MyVolts’ other USB product, Ripcord, also allows you to power gear from USB, but Step-Up Power Tips take advantage of recent developments in USB power, allowing more power hungry gear to be used. For example, Ripcord could only power up to 12 Watts, but Step-Up can provide up to 8 times that wattage (100 Watts), under the right circumstances*. MyVolts states that the 12V Ripcord can power the Elektron Digitakt (12W), but the 12V Step-Up can power the Elektron Digitakt, and it can also run the more power-hungry Elektron Analog IV (18W).
