Black Lion Audio has premiered Eighteen, a new mono channel strip that emulates the classic Melcor sound. Eighteen features a mic preamp with Cinemag input and output transformers and two BLA1831 discrete op-amps, as well as a passive program EQ with a custom Cinemag inductor.
The Eighteen’s preamplifier circuit is an homage built to pay proper tribute to one of the most classic designs in the world. Which is exactly why Black Lion Audio developed the BLA1831 — a customized, discrete op-amp created through an extensive period of component testing to deliver vintage tone while still keeping a low noise floor. BLA then added a passive induction-based program equalizer and output controls for overdriving the analog stages. Black Lion Audio designs, engineers, assembles, and tests each unit by hand in the USA!
Black Lion Audio’s Eighteen is expected to ship by the end of January 2020 and will cost $899.
