Weekend Fun: I’m Not A Real Best Buy Employee, I Just Play One On TV
Improv Everywhere, a New York City group of individuals who are seemingly always down for some good, clean fun, have pulled off a hysterical escapade involving Best Buy. The group assembled a large group of people wearing blue polo shirts and khakis and entered a Best Buy location in NYC to be non-employees.
If you’ve never been to a Best Buy, the blue polo shirt / khakis pants is almost identical to the employees uniform. The “Agents”, what the group’s members like to be called, were instructed to “not claim to work at the store but would be friendly and helpful if anyone had a question.”
One by one, the Agents slipped into the Best Buy on 23rd Street without anyone noticing. To capture all the action, some Agents carried still cameras, others sported video cameras, and others just brought it memory cards and MiniDV tapes to utilize Best Buy’s own cameras in their demo area (…Brilliant! —Ed.).
Once inside, the Agents were instructed to “spread out and stand near the end of an aisle, facing away from the merchandise. Don’t shop, but don’t work either. If a customer comes up to you and asks you a question, be polite and help them if you know the answer. If anyone asks you if you work there, say no. If an employee asks you what you’re doing, respond I’m waiting for my girlfriend/boyfriend who is shopping elsewhere in the store.”
Well, as you can guess, hilarity ensued…
Except Best Buy didn’t think it was so funny, and called the Cops.
