Native Instruments Unleashes Traktor Pro 4

Native Instruments has released Traktor Pro 4, the latest version of their 4-deck DJ software. The latest version features flexible BeatGrids, stem separation, Ozone Maximizer and the Pattern Player. Traktor Pro 4 is mostly an evolution upgrade, instead of complete overhaul, with the majority of the upgrades being user-requested features. Native took their time developing the new version with the primary focus being on reliability, stability and putting the DJ at the center of live remixing.

First and foremost is the built-in Stem Separation. Employing artificial intelligence and leveraging iZotope’s RX technology, you can now isolate and individually tweak vocals, drums, bass, instruments and other elements with ease. We found it worked quite well and provides a multitude of mixing options in the four deck environment.

Next up, are Traktor Pro 4’s flexible BeatGrids, which are crucial for mixing between different genres or mixing tracks with a mid-song tempo change. With flexible BeatGrids you can identify each tempo change throughout a track, enabling accurate looping, beat jumps, beat effect layering, and beat alignment. Native claims all the tempo adjustments don’t degrade the audio quality, which has plagued other DJ software solutions.

We’ve been imploring DJ software developers to incorporate one feature for quite some time and NI delivered in a big, musical way…

Although we felt the interface of the new Pattern Player could be a tad bigger, the benefit of having a micro drum machine to utilize when you want to spice up the percussive elements in your mix is a significant addition. Pattern Player comes with percussion kits from Rebekah, Luke Slater, Len Faki, Chris Liebing, Dubfire, and many more already baked in. It’s not apparent if you can add your own kits. The Pattern Player has a 16-step sequencer, which you can modify on the fly and each kit contains eight different riffs that you can trigger to add variety. If the Pattern Player’s drums are not hitting hard enough, there is a Duck feature, which sidechains the main track.

We’ve been asking software developers for this one feature for years, nah, make that decades, and NI finally delivered by incorporating a Mastering processor on the main bus. NI didn’t have to go far and simply leaned over the cubicle. They employed the Maximizer technology from iZotope’s awesome Ozone mastering software. Native claims its Intelligent Release Control allows you to finally boost the loudness of your sets without distortion.
