Moog Music has premiered the Spectravox, a 10-band filter bank married to an analog Moog oscillator with a dynamic white noise generator.
In 60HP format, Spectravox claims to be both a standalone synthesizer, as well as a component in an Eurorack setup, providing control over tonal shaping and spectral movement. With its dual-mode functionality, it is able to transform from a synthesizer voice into a 10-band vocoder. The integrated secondary filter bank analyzes the spectral makeup of incoming sounds, allowing users to imprint the timbral characteristics of external sources onto the Spectravox’s analog tones.
The Spectravox finds itself as the fourth addition to Moog’s popular 60 HP semimodular series, joining the Mother-32, DFAM and Subharmonicon.

The Spectravox is an analog spectral processor based around a 10-band filter bank, Spectravox creates lively drones and colorful tonal sweeps on its own and adds resonant depth and psychedelic spectral movement to any external sound. Hook up a microphone to the XLR/1/4″ combo jack input and Spectravox becomes a 10-band analog vocoder with integrated modulation of all of its filters. Since the Moog 907 Fixed Filter Bank appeared in the 1960s, creating lush vowel tones and multicolored timbral animation with hands-on level control of each frequency band of a sound has been part of the Moog venacular. Unlike earlier fixed filter banks, however, the unique filters of Spectravox are no longer fixed in place and will jointly shift around the frequency space, allowing for the creation of otherworldly voltage-controlled spectral animation and vibrant phaser-like sweeps.

Spectravox is a boundary-pushing instrument that invites you to explore creative new ways of shaping and sculpting sound, but does not have any MIDI implementation.
