Teenage Engineers Premiers K.O. II

Teenage Engineering has officially debuted the K.O. II, a surprisingly affordable bit of kit from the company that sells a toy car for $250.

The EP-133 K.O. II is an evolution of their PO-33 sampling concept. It now includes a sequencer that expands on the PO-style workflow, with increased track lengths up to 99 bars and freeing you up from having to always think in 16-step segments. K.O. II’s sequencer can also be used to control external instruments, synthesizers, drum machines and more, not just its own samples. And for a modest $299, the K.O. II will appeal to new Teenage Engineering consumers who want a real instrument, instead of an overpriced toy.

Urban Rhythm — Backstory — New Release!

“Urban Rhythm serves as a testament to the limitless frontiers of sonic artistry, where the boundaries of imagination dissolve into a realm of poetic resonance and artistic revelation.”

Brand New Sequencer

The biggest enhancement that the K.O. II received is its sequencer. Unlike their Pocket Operator methodology of chaining together multiple 16-step sequences, a K.O. II project allows you to mix and match four groups, each with their own sequence length up to 99 bars. This approach allows you to experiment until you get the right groove, before committing and building again. But just like the Pocket Operators, you can inject spontaneity into sequences with punch-in effects, which are now even more dynamic than ever thanks to K.O. II’s pressure-sensitive keys. Additionally, an assignable performance fader puts another layer of performability into your music.

Flexible Connectivity

K.O. II also just might be the most open and flexible of teenage engineering’s instruments right out of the box. Beyond stereo audio I/O, you’re able to connect the K.O. II to all kinds of analog, digital, and virtual instruments thanks to the inclusion of ports for MIDI, analog sync, and USB-C.

Teenage Engineering’s K.O. II costs $299 and is available now.
