Black Rooster Audio Releases Omnitec – 436C Vari-Mu Compressor Plug-In

Black Rooster Audio has premiered the OmniTec-436C, compressor plug-in for Mac and PC, based on the Altec 436C.

Altec’s 436C compressor was installed in Abbey Road Studios in the 1960’s and helped shape the sound of Paul McCartney’s bass and other artists that recorded there during its heyday. Black Rooster’s plug-in is based on the original’s vari-mu design, meaning the gain reduction ratio changes as it’s pushed. Thus, its output and response are program dependent, which is what makes the vari-mu design unique.

2-Band Sidechain Filter

While the original Altec 436C had only volume, release and threshold controls, the Black Rooster’s Omnitec plug-in adds varible sidechain, high and low frequency controls, as well as Attack and Release controls. A Makeup gain knob provides up to 24dB of gain if needed, and a Mix control is included for parallel compression.

The plug-in’s sidechain filter allows you to filter the sidechain signal using high and low filters from 100Hz up to 20kHz. Additionally, you can employ the SC Listen Mode in order to listen to the isolated sidechain signal after filtering. Gain precise control over the stereo image and density of your sound with the OmniTec-436C’s advanced stereo linking and parallel compression capabilities, and create a cohesive mix with ease.
