Built by Kyle McDonald, Manny Tan, Yotam Mann, and friends at Google Creative Lab and employing the t-SNE Map, the Infinite Drum Machine uses machine learning to organize thousands of everyday sounds into a drum machine format with a built-in 16-step sequencer.
With the t-SNE Map technology, you can explore an interactive landscape, created by Machine Learning algorithms, that organize sounds based on a set of parameters. In this case, the artificial intelligence placed similar sounds closer together.

The artificial intelligence wasn’t provided with any descriptions or tags – only the audio. Users can manipulate the map to explore neighborhoods of similar sounds and even make beats using the drum sequencer. The Infinite Drum Machine’s sounds are complex and vary widely and The London Philharmonia contributed several of the instrument sounds.
