Behringer Announces Wasp Deluxe Synth

Behringer, who is literally on a tear of late, has just, kinda, sorta announced the Wasp monophonic synth. Not sure this is actually going to be released any time soon, although Behringer’s favorite retailer, Sweetwater sound, is now taking preorders, the Wasp claims to be a “faithful reproduction of the cult classic digital-analog hybrid synth.” Truth is, I think the market would rather have the ARP 2600 that Behringer previously teased, but here’s what we can tell you about the Wasp monophonic. True to its namesake, the Wasp touts its ability to produce buzzy sounds and pads from its two digital oscillators, analog VCF with highpass, lowpass, notch, and bandpass modes, noise generator, and several modulation capabilities.

The Wasp generates three variable oscillator shapes ramp, pulse, and enhanced mode, with pulse width modulation on OSC1. OSC2 substitutes pulse width modulation for pitch, so you can dial up distressed chorus effects. What gives the Warp its unique sonic signature is the LFO with six selectable waveforms and pitch / frequency mod controls married to the two analog envelope generators.

The Behringer Wasp can be used as a desktop module or integrated into a Eurorack system (80HP) With Behringer’s Poly Chain capability, the Wasp can be combined with multiple synthesizers for up to 16 voice polyphony. It also includes an external in, allowing you to use it as an effects processor. It have MIDI implementation via 5-pin MIDI jack or USB/MIDI.
