MWM Officially Launches Phase – New DJ DVS Paradigm

After much hype and some vaporware rumors, MWM has officially released Phase, their wireless controller for DVS DJ systems. Phase breaks with the conventions of existing hardware equipment in two big ways. First, it is the first device that allows DJs to mix on vinyl turntables without using needles. Second, it’s operation is completely wireless, meaning you don’t actually need turntables to utilize Phase in DVS DJ rigs.

Two audio Remotes are set on top of the turntables and analyze the rotation movements of each to wirelessly send the captured information to a Receiver. The latter processes this information and sends it to the DVS setup. In order to meet the requirements of advanced DJs in terms of audio latency and reactivity, Phase has been designed to provide the necessary high-level of precision. To reach this high water mark, MWM’s engineers were required to handle a large volume of data in short time intervals. To achieve this, they worked on optimizing wireless communication systems, leading them to develop their own wireless 2.4 GHz radio frequency communication protocol – different from Bluetooth or Wi-fi, to avoid any type of interference. Every rotation movement of the turntables, even the tiniest, is detected by the Remotes and instantly sent to the software, providing real-time audio control with accuracy.

“I have never been this excited about technology! What Phase is doing is going to change DJing forever.” —DJ Jazzy Jeff

Thanks to Phase, DJs can finally stop making compromises. Combining the reliability and stability of digital DJ controllers with the feeling of standard audio records, the product liberates them from critical technical constraints and opens up a world of unlimited creation.
