Mackie Unveils New DL/DLM Portable PA & My Fader App
Mackie launched several new products at NAMM including iOS action and the new DL/DLM portable PA. With a range of DLM loudspeakers and a choice of input configurations for the DL mixer, a DL/DLM system can easily work for a wide variety of applications. Never before has such a powerful system been available in such a compact design. The form factor of the DLM Series alone reduces size by a third and eliminates nearly 20% of the weight when compared with traditional 2-way loudspeakers.
DL/DLM
Using quality components and DSP, a DL/DLM system offers a better sonic experience than ever possible before. Innovations like the DL’s wireless mixing ability, choice of channel plug-ins and robust recall system offer features previously unavailable at this price point. Equally innovative are the DLM speakers, with unmatched power and performance at a size and weight that changes the very definition of the word portable. Features like multiband feedback elimination, alignment delay and an ability to store presets set a new standard in the world of portable PA.
Mackie’s DL Series digital live sound mixers include the popular DL1608 16-channel mixer and all-new DL806 8-channel mixer, both of which feature total control from the Apple iPad. There’s also the My Fader control app for use with an iPhone or iPod touch. With the ability to mix wirelessly from anywhere in the venue and the best user interface available, DL mixers have proven themselves in the marketplace and have garnered rave reviews from users and industry alike.
My Fader
Mackie has debuted My Fader, a new control app for the DL1608 and new DL806 Digital Live Sound Mixers. Based on the user interface and workflow of the Master Fader iPad control app, My Fader provides a set of features for on-stage performers controlling their own monitor mix. My Fader is also great for the FOH engineer who needs a handy tool that allows pocketable wireless control from anywhere in the venue.
My Fader allows control of DL Series mixers via Wi-Fi from a modern iPhone or iPod touch. Version 1.0 features touch-friendly control over multiple input channels at once and an output selector for quick access to any mix. The addition of channel muting, detailed channel ID and metering and the inclusion of a master fader provide unmatched control for an iPhone mixer application. Plus, an access control feature can limit users to only control their assigned aux, keeping them away from other outputs. This is great for simple on-stage control of monitor mixes. Also unique is the ability to recall from any snapshots from the current show on the DL mixer. This is great for bands controlling the whole mix from the stage. With My Fader, DL mixer users benefit from the full power of a digital mixer with an easy-to-use application that fits right in their hand.
My Fader v1.0 for the iPhone or iPod touch will be available soon via iTunes. www.mackie.com/DLSeries.
Master Fader 1.4
Mackie has updated their Master Fader control iPad app for the DL1608 and new DL806 digital live sound mixers to version 1.4. Master Fader v1.4 features an entirely new selection of vintage processing. After extensive analysis, development and testing, the new vintage EQ, compressor and gate deliver the sought-after musical characteristics of your favorite industry-standard processors. The vintage compressor and gate provide a lightning-fast attack, non-linear attack/release and program dependent release making them great for drums and other transient sources. The vintage EQ captures the unique interactions between the shelving bands and the gain and frequency-dependent Q structure of the parametric band to deliver the clarity and sheen of classic EQ designs. This EQ is great for getting vocals, guitars and other instruments to sit perfectly in a mix. Now, DL users can choose between clean, surgical modern processing and the new range of classic vintage plug-ins for more flexibility in use.
In addition, a huge update to the show management and overall snapshot operation makes DL mixers even better for users with complex shows and multiple wireless devices. With DL series mixers the users can snap a photo of the band with their iPad camera or choose from a selection of handy icons and use this as channel ID. With v1.4 these images are now synched between all wireless devices connected to the mixer. The snapshot system will also store and recall these images across devices and the user can add an image to each show to help with identification. Plus, shows now load in the background, keeping all wireless devices online when a show is changed. And, of course, shows will seamlessly transfer between the DL1608 and new DL806.
