Year-End 2008 CD Sales Will Be Worst Ever
According to recent sales figures, it appears that the fourth quarter of 2008 will be the worst ever in terms of CD sales. Due to the consistent migration to digital formats, lackluster new music and the continued devaluation of the format, CD sales are already down 27% to date.
Wal-Mart, who released chain-exclusive albums by AC/DC and The Eagles, has been reducing shelf-space and cutting CD prices in half to below the $5 threshold. As it stands, 2009 could be regarded by history as the year that the CD officially died.
