Stephen Marley has finally come out of the shadows of his famous father and charismatic older brother Ziggy to deliver an intimate,
yet widely accessible solo effort Mind Control on the Tuff Gong imprint. Combining Dance Hall, Reggae, and his own electronic
take on hip-hop, Marley points his listeners to the future, without forgetting his past. From the instantly catcy Traffic Jam featuring his
half-brother Damian (Jr. Gong), to the delicate Lonely Avenue in which you'll need a voiceprint to differentiate him from his father's trippy best,
Stephen Marley is a force to be reckoned with. This could be the best Marley offspring album to date. Buy it now!

Gabriel Ananda is set to release his full-length, Bambusbeats on March 19th. The new release has a mature sound, but falls away from his well-known melodic style to venture into new territories. To celebrate the release his label is graciously giving away one of the album's best cuts, Lamakov as a free download. This artistic minimal journey builds to a nice crescendo before melting in your mouth and then your pants...

Everything You Need to Know In One Place
Arturia's Jupiter-8V, Steinberg's Sequel, Cerwin Vega's Subs, IK's Sonik Instruments
Arturia
the French concern, has announced that their anticipated Jupiter-8V is now shipping. Arturia claims the Jupiter-8V is a perfect blend of the past and future:
a software recreation of Roland's famous Jupiter-8 coupled with a new generation of features.
Arturia's Jupiter-8V raises questions...
Among those new features are the Galaxy, the step sequencer and the new effects' architecture. The Galaxy allows the user to chose from
different LFO types and intertwine them together into a single unique modulation source, giving a new evolving element to the sound of
the Jupiter-8.
Roland could not have picked a better software emulation company to present the famed synth to the masses, but the question remains, why didn't
they put out a virtual Jupiter 8 themselves?? We posed the same question to Arturia's Frederic Brun and received this response:
"A couple of people here are huge fans of the Jupiter-8. Beside that, we have made a market survey a few years ago on what recreation of classic
synthesizers would be the most sought-after. The Jupiter-8 came high in the ranking."
Although he skirted the real issue, he did go on to reveal how the relationship got started:
"We contacted Roland a few years ago through our Japanese distributors. We convinced them the Jupiter-8V would be an interesting products
for the modern musician and they liked the idea. Mr. Kakehashi, the founder of Roland, (aka "Mr. K" --Ed.) made the decision to do it
and we introduced to him the beta version at the NAMM show this year."
Kudos to Arturia for getting this emulation achieved, but one can't help wonder why Ikutaro Kakehashi missed yet another opportunity to leverage his
renowned legacy products for Roland's sole benefit...

Steinberg
has introduced Sequel, an all-in-one tool that combines recording, editing, mixing and live performance features with a substantial collection of loops
and sounds. From the first look, it appears Steinberg took one jar of Apple's GarageBand, a can of Ableton Live and a liberal sprinkling of Sony's Acid Pro,
cooked til simmering and created a new dish dubbed Sequel.
Steinberg jumps in to the live peformance loop game with Sequel.
Sequel packs several Steinberg audio technologies into one, intuitive one-window system that was created to get any PC or Mac user producing their own
tracks in short order -- even with no previous knowledge of music or production...
