Friday Madness: ArcAttack

Friday, August 20th, 2010

ArcAttack, tesla coil musicians who we’ve showcased previously here at FutureMusic, have taken their performance to the masses via America’s Got Talent. The group, who construct all their own gear from scratch in one of the member’s garage, utilize two huge Tesla Coils, which act like speakers, to perform recognizable songs. For America’s Got Talent, they performed Iron Man, a nod to judge Sharon Osbourne’s famous husband, Ozzy.

The performance is sequenced via MIDI by an Open Labs Miko, which the members found beneficial due to it’s all-metal chassis.

However, they are now employing a special MIDI guitar into the performance, using new technology that they needed to develop for their unique application.

The group hopes to take their show to Vegas and follow in the Blue Man Group’s footsteps for International domination. Instead, we’d like to see ArcAttack move into a more Crash Worship-like direction — total mayhem!

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Love to play the piano, but don’t want to miss the big game? Now you can have the best of both worlds with the Craft Line Mediano.

Craft Line Mediano

The Mediano is an upright piano with a retractable flat screen television housed inside. Now we have no idea what this action does to the piano’s acoustics, although it can’t be great, we can say that this is a conversation piece to say the least.

Rocket Design has unleashed a suite of music-oriented furniture and accessories that will turn any room into a music conversation piece. College dorm rooms seem the most likely beneficiary of these items, but some pieces, like the RCA Wine Rack, would make a cheeky addition to any apartment.

Friday Madness: VJ Franz K Unveils Franken-iPad Performance Rig

Friday, June 4th, 2010

From the “Remember Kids, Don’t Smoke Crack” files comes this iPad “device” from the VJ Franz K (not someone who should be left alone with kids).

Franz K has strapped together a couple of Korg Kaoss entries and his iPad to create this mentally-challenged rig, which is only lacking one thing: a holder for a tube of his favorite hair-gel.

Warning: You will lose approximately 30 IQ points for a period of one hour after viewing this video.

Challenge: Can you watch the entire video listening to his creepy voice-over and viewing his Amiga Video Toaster effects without clicking away? Can you?? PLEASE SEE WARNING ABOVE

PS. One of the apps he’s, ah, rocking, is 4Pocket’s Aurora, which is currently in our review process…

Weekend Fun: Dyson Air Multiplier VS. Rube Goldberg

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

What do you do when you can’t sell your $300 bladeless fan? You enlist your bored-out-of-their-living-minds warehouse employees to create a Rube Goldberg-like course for a helium balloon to travel through…

It’s actually not a bad viral marketing idea, but these guys are just not creative enough to really make this a captivating and truly rewarding video…

…but since Dyson isn’t selling any of their very cool, but too expensive “air multiplier” fans, we’re hoping they smoke some more weed go back to the drawing board and come up with something a little better.

Weekend Fun: Soft Machines X0X Pillows

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Soft Machines is offering up hand-made, Roland X0X pillows in the following flavors: TR-909, TB-303, TR-808, SH-101, as well as some guitar pedals, vintage synths and old school Game Boy action. The pillows are individually constructed, which is likely why the price is so high, (Or maybe they’re socking money away for their legal defense fund… —Ed.) and can be customized to your particular taste.

The original batch of 909s has sold out, which is quite something at 100 euros. But for that Roland fanboy, who spent $2000 for a 303, what’s another fist-full of Euros??

Weekend Fun: Sportpong

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Remember Pong? Well, some geeks have decided to actually make it a “sport” using the latest projection technology. The inventors dub Sportpong as “an interactive physical computer game.” The “field” is projected on the floor, where two or more players can battle in teams against each other, because singles would just be too much exercise for the rubber-limbed.

A reflector paddle on each foot the players hit the ball to the goal or to defend your goal.
