Roland Set To Release New Jupiter Keyboard At Messe

Roland is set to release a new Jupiter keyboard at this year’s MusikMesse show. The three oscillator hardware synth follows similar trajectories of the rebranded Juno and SH series and will most likely disappoint anyone expecting a modern take on the famed JP-8 analog synth of yesteryear witnessed below.

Jupiter JP-8

Fact is, Roland has never been able to truly capitalize on several of their brilliant products, which ended up being ahead of their time. Roland has released a fashionable hype video of the Jupiter where you can listen to some of the patches drenched in effects and accompanied by out-of-touch visuals…

  1. Wow! What’s with the cynical attitude, Dude? You wouldn’t happen to work for Yamaha or Korg, would you? I would think that a site like ‘FutureMusic’ would be alittle more pumped about innovative performance hardware! You’ve already buried this one and chances are you haven’t even seen or heard it yet. I hope you like crow . . .

I don’t see anything in that video that says its supposed to be a new Jupiter. This whole post is tabloid and gossipy. Who’s paying you to trash Roland?

  3. To our Dear piaknowguy and velocifero…
We’re sorry if you take issue with our attitude and ability to accurately predict the future of new products…and we’re so sorry if you like the visual elements in Roland’s Jupiter 80 hype video.

However, let’s set the record straight:
    1) In no way are we trashing Roland or poo-pooing their new Jupiter 80 synth. We just stated that for synthesists hoping for a modern take on the JP-8, the Jupiter 80 will not be an answer to their prayers. Not that it won’t sound great or be cool.
    2) If you think we work for Korg, I would suggest checking out our story on the latest incarnation of their Electribe.
    3) If you think this is gossipy and the work of tabloid journalism, then just wait a few more days until Messe and then enjoy a heaping helping of “crow.”
    4) For the latest information on our scoop, check out Roland Jupiter 80:

    Love you. Mean it!
