Gemini Releases DJ Controllers
Gemini unveiled two DJ MIDI controllers at the NAMM show, the flagship CTRL-47 and the entry level First Mix. Gemini, who’s currently going through some sort of identity crisis by flip-flopping their GCI and Gemini brand names, has added a couple of new products to the controller market along with about 200 other companies (My sister has even developed her own controller… —Ed.). The build is typical Gemini, but if price is your main driving point the 4-channel may be worth a look.
The FirstMix is a DJ MIDI controller with a standard USB connection that comes bundled with MixVibes CROSS LE performance DJ software and recreates the two-decks-and-a-mixer paradigm. Just load your tracks to either Deck A or Deck B on the MixVibes CROSS LE software, and then control it, cue up the start point, and you’re rocking. Definitely a choice for young, budding DJs, or to get your annoying brother off of your S4.
The CTRL-47 is a 4-channel DJ mixer that features two touch-sensitive jog wheels and a built-in 24-bit/192 kHz soundcard with low latency ASIO drivers. It provides control over DJ software with a variety of controls for loops, effects, EQ controls, samples, hot cues, and pitch.
The included inputs and outputs on the CTRL-47 offer connectivity options with balanced XLR outputs (Nice! —Ed.) and 3 sets of stereo RCA outputs: Master, Booth, and Record as well as a S/PDIF digital out to feed your mix to any source.
A handicapped version of VirtualDJ 7 software is included with the CTRL-47.
