Ableton Announces New Link Technology As Live Update

Ableton’s new Link technology, for syncing iOS apps to its audio workstation, Live, is now available in Live 9.6 as a free update.

Ableton’s Link tech claims to make it effortless to synchronize beat, phase, and tempo of Live and Link-enabled iOS apps over a wireless or ethernet connection. To setup Link, simply connect to the same network, and start jamming. Ableton says anyone can start and stop their part while others keep playing, and anyone can adjust the tempo and the rest will follow. Sounds like a “MIDI Drum Circle” from the 1990’s.

Link works between several instances of Live, with Live and iOS apps, or even without Live in your setup: using Link-enabled apps on multiple devices or multiple apps on the same device.

Link is now a built-in feature of Live 9.6, a free update that Live 9 users can download now.
