Vestax, Serato Launch VCI-300 DJ MIDI Controller & ITCH Mixing Software
Vestax has officially released the VCI-300, a new DJ MIDI controller developed specifically for Serato’s new ITCH mixing software. A fully integrated and portable DJ performance system, the VCI-300 provides control over more than 90 parameters and functions inside ITCH.
The 300 features two high-resolution platters which provide adjustable resistance, a built-in audio interface with a Mic input, stereo input, and 2 stereo outputs (Master L/R and Monitor L/R) and a customizable fader curve control.
As the first DJ manufacturer to launch their next generation controller, Vestax now has a competitive advantage over Numark, EKS and Stanton, who have yet to launch their competing solutions. Stanton’s SC System, Numark’s NS7 and EKS’ OTUS have all been plagued by production delays with no company divulging a firm launch date. The Vestax/Serato combo is now able to ramp up prior to December to take advantage of holiday sales. However, Rane/Serato and Vestax have never proven to be able to flex serious marketing muscle in the marketplace, which still leaves the door wide open for Stanton and Numark to come bursting through the door when they are ready for prime time.
To kick off the 300’s launch, Vestax and PSSL have teamed for a new contest dubbed, The Great DJ Getaway (snappy, huh? –Ed.). The Great DJ Getaway winner will be flown to Miami for 3 days from March 26 – 28, 2009 to play a showcase set at the world famous Winter Music Conference attended by over 40,000 DJs, industry professionals, and aspiring creative stars.
To enter the contest, DJs must upload their best mixing action on the VCI-300 to YouTube. Entries must be received between October 1, 2008 and January 15, 2009 with the winner being announced on or around February 1, 2009. The videos that get the most views and highest ratings during this time period will be submitted to a panel of judges including Vestax management, Industry press, and professional DJs. Videos will be judged on quality of performance not audio quality or video production values.
The Great DJ Getaway Grand Prize includes a round trip ticket from the winner’s hometown to Miami, 2 nights in a Hotel near the center of the WMC action, and a showcase set at the WMC where the winner can show off their magic skills on the VCI-300.
