SanDisk Announces Shaker MP3 Player

SanDisk has announced the Shaker, a value-priced MP3 player with an integrated speaker aimed at the tween market. Sandisk, the second largest seller of MP3 players in the United States behind the iPod, has delivered an inspired player that features several “community” aspects that are sure to be a hit with the younger market.

The Sansa Shaker features many ways to enjoy and share songs, including two headphone jacks, a built-in speaker to listen without ear buds, and the ability to play SD cards loaded with your favorite music. Along with the unique built-in speaker, the Shaker adds an aspect of fun to the player by allowing the younger audience to shake the device to jump to another song.

The Sansa Shaker is available in pink and blue and comes equipped with a USB cable, lanyard, five pre-loaded songs, and a colorful array of stickers so kids can customize their device. The Sansa Shaker includes an AAA battery that allows up to 15 hours* of battery lifewhen using a single pair of headphones. It also comes with a 512MB SD flash memory card which holds about 125 MP3 songs.
The standard SD card slot makes it easy for kids and families to swap out flash memory cards, as well as for SanDisk to sell ancillary products, smart.

The SanDisk Shaker is expected to be available in the United States in late April at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $39.99, with availability planned in other parts of the world later this year. More information on the SanDisk Shaker.

The Future: More than any other MP3 player manufacturer besides Apple, Sansa “gets it.” The Shaker is an adroit play by a concern that’s been firing on all cylinders in the player market. Every feature set from the dual headphone jacks, integrated speaker and even the included sticker set for “customization” shows that the company has done its research. With the very affordable $40 price point, we are very bullish on the Shaker and SanDisk in general.
