Go North Adds Electronic Music Stage
The Go North Music Festival, one of Scotland’s largest, will have a dedicated Electronic Music Stage this year for the first time. The event, now in its sixth year, will take place June 7-8 in the northern city of Inverness. It has generally been staged in the north-eastern city of Aberdeen, but is moving to Inverness to coincide with “Highland 2007,” a year-long government-backed celebration of the region’s culture.
The multi-venue Go North was launched in 2001 to showcase new talent from northern Scotland and the Scottish islands, although in recent years, acts from elsewhere in Europe and the United States have performed. In 2006, 50 acts performed in eight venues across Aberdeen May 10-11.
The event also includes a number of industry seminars. While a full schedule for the Inverness event has yet to be published, it has been confirmed that the electronic music stage will be situated at Bar Pivo in the city’s Academy Street. According to the event’s organizer/promoter Shaun Arnold, “Go North has a track record of featuring both DJs and electronica bands, but we felt that the demand was there to have a specially designated venue.” Arnold says the venue will host live shows and DJ sets. The only other sector to have a dedicated stage the festival will be singer/songwriters. All Go North shows are free to the public.
