Weekend Fun: The Annoy-A-Tron

Now this is pure, unadulterated, geek evil… The Annoy-A-Tron is a small gag device that generates a randomly-timed, irritating beep. The fun begins when you hide it in the room of your archenemy – or that idiot production intern. The beeps are delivered in random intervals ranging from 2 to 8 minutes, which drives your nemesis batty because it’s almost impossible to localize.

The battery-powered device can be hidden in a variety of stealthy locations, our favorite is tucked away on the side of a rack of sound gear, and can be programmed to emit a 2 kHz or 12 kHz sound. Both work great with studio equipment, but the 12 kHz will drive the unsuspecting victim especially bonkers.

Using a hidden video tape camera, or a Web Cam connected to a computer in another room, will take the whole concept to the next level, and generate enough yuks to cause convulsions. Our only wish was if the Annoy-A-Tron had a remote control, so you could spark the beep at just the appropriate moment.

Dr. Evil would be proud. More information on the Annoy-A-Tron.
