../ 2005 NAMM Report: Dave Smith
Dave Smith Instruments unveiled the Poly Evolver Keyboard
at the show. Based on the same synth engine from the monophonic Evolver table-top model, each of its
four stereo voices has two Curtis analog oscillators and two digital oscillators that are
modeled after the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS.
The Poly Evolver also utilizes real analog 2/4 filters and VCAs
for modulation. Although the booth was a little malnourished in terms of support products like a sequencer and headphone listening posts,
the synth had a distinctive sound, smooth, yet powerful and was able to reproduce
classic analog tones as well as more outlandish excursions. The Keyboard was contained in a beefy chassis with wood side panels. The Poly is expected to
start shipping by the end of April and will retail for $2699.
