Sony Officially Pulls The Plug On Connect

Although Sony originally denied that they were disconnecting Connect, their online music store, when we informed you about it on June 18th, the company has finally come clean after notifying subscribers that it is pulling the plug.

Sony has issued a statement that it will officially demolish the Connect sometime next March. “Sony will be phasing out the Connect music services based on Sony’s Atrac audio format in North America and Europe.”

Sony also dropped the bad news to Connect members, and informed them to quickly finalize purchases, redeem gift codes and burn their purchased songs to CDs. Sony promised ongoing compatibility with its SonicStage software and previously-released portable music players, but don’t bank on it.
