Bias Inc. Ceases Operations

The venerable Bias, Inc. makers of Peak, SoundSoap, Deck, Master Perfection Suite and the iProRecorder App has been shuttered. Bias, short for Berkley Integrated Audio Software, was started by Steve Berkley, a software developer/audio engineer, and later joined by his wife Christine. The small operation, based out of San Francisco, CA, made a big splash with it’s excellent 2-Channel audio editor.

BIAS, Inc. has ceased operations. We would like to thank all the BIAS customers and friends for the opportunity to have served the audio community for over 16 amazing years. The BIAS Authorization Manager Server is functioning for authorizing and de-authorizing BIAS products at this time. Follow these links to access the FAQ and updates areas of the BIAS site.

Peak 1.0 debuted in 1996 and continued development to version 7. As many other companies pruned their stereo editor offerings, most recently Apple killing off Soundtrack Pro, the writing was on the wall for the venerable Peak. Bias did branch out to other products, but couldn’t garner enough traction to support the Berkley’s and their small staff.

The Future: Hopefully this is not the end of Steve Berkley or the Bias product line. We’d love to see Peak and SoundSoap released as open source for crowd development.
