RIAA Pressure Shutters Muxtape
Muxtape, a free, online mixtape service, has been shuttered temporarily due to pressure from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). No real details have been divulged except for a small note on Muxtape’s homepage that reads: “Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA.”
The call from the RIAA was probably no surprise to the site’s founders. The site has existed below the radar for some time and skirted paying licensing fees due to its low profile. However, as the site gained in reputation and mass it inevitably stuck its head above ground prompting the RIAA to play its favorite game: Whack-A-Mole.
