According to a new patent application, Apple is developing a volume control device for its iPods that would automatically calculate how long a person has been listening to the portable music player, and at what volume, before gradually reducing the sound level over time. The idea is to protect iPod users’ hearing, which is taking a beating due to extremely high listening levels.
