Amazon To Launch MP3 Downloads This Month?

There’s a lot of rumors swirling that Amazon is set to launch its download music store component this month. The new service will sell DRM-Free, yet watermarked, MP3 files along side of its standard CDs.

The online store has been anticipated for months since original details emerged on their download initiative in the beginning of the year. The non-protected format eliminates Warner Music Group and Sony/BMG from the action and is one reason Amazon will mostly sell MP3s as an option next to their physical releases instead of opening a digital only store like iTunes. EMI, By Any Revenue Stream Necessary and Universal Music Group will reportedly go along for the ride.
