Limewire Readies Legal Download Store

Limewire has announced that it will launch a legal online music store in time for the 2007 holiday season. The store will be a separate, stand-alone, online outlet, and not connected to their Peer-To-Peer (P2P) service aside from search results. However, “subsequent releases will enable users to browse and purchase music directly from within the Limewire program,” according to their statement.

The store will sell watermarked individual MP3s, and a subscription service is in the works. It will most likely not offer tracks from the major labels since the concern is in the middle of a heated copyright infringement battle with the RIAA. However, if you own a label and are interested in offering your songs via the new store, now may be a good time to jump in; hit them up at storecontent@limewire.com.
