Telefunken Ships RM-5C Ribbon Mic

Telefunken|USA is now shipping the RM-5C, the company’s first ribbon microphone. The mic was designed by Jerry Silvia and David Browning of Silvia Classic Microphones in Santa Cruz, CA.

Telefunken claims the RM-5C’s directional pickup pattern, improved output level and reportedly wider frequency response are achieved through acoustic design and magnetic materials. The result is a cardioid microphone that is said to possess a frequency response from 30 to 18,000 Hz.

The RM-5C is physically inspired by the classic RCA BK5, but is not a copy of the well-known microphone. According to the company, the RM-5C lends itself well to brass, but is also applicable for vocals, acoustic guitar, drum overheads, cymbals, percussion instruments, and other signal sources that can sometimes seem harsh.
