House Committee Holds Internet Radio Royalty Hearings

Now that the Day of Silence by online radio broadcasters has concluded, The House Small Business Committee is now ramping up the process of Internet Radio Royalty Hearings. The hearing, dubbed “Assessing the Impact of the Copyright Royalty Board Decision to Increase Royalty Rates on Recording Artists and Webcasters,” begins today on Capitol Hill.

Lawmakers have taken note of the Day of Silence effort and the bipartisan Internet Radio Equality Act is getting some traction. Arguments from both sides of the heated topic will be heard with Bryan Miller, GM at WOXY.com being the main voice of the small broadcasters along with artist Joey Allcorn and Richard Eisworth, CEO of Cincinnati Public Radio. On the opposing side of those in favor of the rate hikes and representing Soundexchange will be of Thomas F. Lee, President of the American Federation of Musicians, Tommy Silverman, of Tommy Boy Records fame and artist Cathy Fink.
