Shortlist Music Winner To Be Announced On iTunes

The Shortlist organization may have jumped the shark by using iTunes as the public platform to announce the winner of the sixth annual Shortlist Music Prize on June 12. The declaration turned off several fiercely autarchic members of the industry who now claim the distinctly indie vibe of this provocative prize is now in jeapordy.

The winning album will be selected by a panel of established recording artists from the Shortlist of these ten finalists: Band of Horses, Beirut, Bonnie Prince Billy, Cat Power, Girl Talk, Hot Chip, Joanna Newsom, Regina Spektor, Spank Rock and Tom Waits.

The ten Shortlist finalists were selected from the initial Longlist of sixty nominated albums by a panel of nine Listmakers that include Franz Ferdinand, KT Tunstall, Panic at the Disco, Sufjan Stevens and members of Snow Patrol, the Killers and Flaming Lips. Independent labels released nine of the ten finalist albums.
