U2 3D Film Debuts At Cannes

The rock film U2 3D, the first live-action, multi-camera digital 3-D feature, debuts at Cannes this week. The film’s producers, David and John Modell and Jon and Peter Shapiro, hope that this 3D only release will jumpstart their new business of providing live 3-D broadcasts of sports, concerts and other events to digital cinema screens.

3ality Digital provided the technology in U2 3D and it reportedly takes the medium to the next level. U2 was heavily involved in the production and even went as far as to perform their songs in an empty stadium so close-ups could be filmed. The Modells hope to score lucrative distribution at the festival for a worldwide release later this year.
