North Carolina State University Tells RIAA To Piss Off

North Carolina State University is the latest school to tell the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to piss off, a development that follows similar moves from a handful of other colleges. According to the student-run newspaper Technician, administrators have not embraced the RIAA Settlement Drive-Thru, which offers an online payment methodology and has resisted the RIAA’s requests for information on the identities of accused infringers.

The RIAA dropped 23 “John Doe” lawsuits against NC State students, a litigation campaign that uses the courts to determine the identity of individual who the RIAA alleges traded illegal songs using an IP address. The 23 students have refused to utilized the aforementioned Settlement Drive-Thru.

A growing group of colleges including the University of Wisconsin, University of Nebraska, and the University of Maine have resisted the RIAA’s latest priracy effort to date.
