FCC Authorizes HD Radio Expansion

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) authorized a number of expanded digital radio capabilities this week. The FCC will now offer automatic approval to new, multicast and datacast channels, subject to certain limitations. Additionally, AM stations are now authorized to transmit digital-only stations at night, a move that broadens previous, daytime licenses. The move provides additional confidence to a number of early HD Radio partners and manufacturers.
