Major Labels Sue AllofMP3.com In The States
Not satisfied with the lack of action from the Russian Government, several music labels have sued MediaServices, the U.S. agency that owns Russia’s controversial AllofMP3.com web site.
Arista Records LLC, Warner Bros. Records Inc., Capitol Records Inc. and UMG Recordings Inc., among others, have sued, charging that the site provides songs to consumers without the labels permission.
While Mediaservices has claimed that paying royalties to a Russian licensing group places it within the scope of Russian law, the music industry is arguing that the Russian licensing group doesn’t have the authority to collect and distribute royalties.
