Sirius Satellite Radio Broadcasting Final CBGB Show With Patti Smith

Sirius Satellite Radio has been tapped to broadcast the final show at the renowned CBGB’s, the birthplace of the punk movement in the US. Patti Smith will be the final performer with a sold out show on the 15th. In fact, the show was sold out in 18 minutes, according to club founder and owner Hilly Kristal, who will soon be forced to shutter the premises. Smith first played at the club in 1975. “Although we mourn the closing of CBGB, we should remember CBGB, not merely as a place,” she said. “It is a state of mind.”

The show will be broadcast on the Disorder channel on Sirius. Kristal is currently weighing offers to re-open the club elsewhere in New York City, or in Las Vegas. CBGB was a birthplace for major bands like The Ramones, Blondie, and Talking Heads, and fought a lengthy, yet unsuccessful, battle to have the iconic New York venue stay in its current location.
